From Rain Delays to Rock-Solid Foundations: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
In our latest project update, we’re pulling back the curtain on what’s been happening since our last video walkthrough. What started as a routine concrete pour quickly became a test of patience, engineering, and problem-solving. Spoiler alert: we passed—with flying (and muddy) colors.
Unexpected Challenges with Soil Conditions
During excavation, we discovered poor soil conditions that required much deeper footings than originally planned—up to six feet deep in some areas. That’s a lot more concrete than budgeted. Because of this, we had to bring in a structural engineer and conduct a third-party inspection to satisfy the inspection department and ensure the footing integrity was sound.
The Weather Wasn’t On Our Side
Of course, it rained. Not once, not twice—but three times during this phase of the project. Each time, the site became more compromised, forcing us to excavate further. It meant bringing the pump truck in during less-than-ideal conditions and moving fast to protect the fresh concrete with plastic sheeting as the storm rolled in.
Dealing with the Old Well
We also addressed an unexpected element—the old well from the neighboring house. To make the site structurally sound, we filled the well with stone and topped it off with concrete. Then, a rebar bridge was built over it, connecting it with the foundation footings for extra support.
Moving Forward
Now that the footings are secure, we’ve started laying out the first floor framing. From precision drilling to double-checking every measurement, it’s all about ensuring what’s built on this rock-solid foundation is just as strong.
